This signature detects attempts to exploit a known vulnerability in the Ipswitch IMail Server List Mailer component. It is due to a boundary error in the IMailSrv.exe that handles messages sent to the IMail Server. The vulnerable code does not properly handle multiple "Reply-To:" headers in the incoming messages. A remote unauthenticated attacker can exploit this by sending a crafted message to the affected service. Successful exploitation can lead to arbitrary code execution under the context of the System user.
Ipswitch IMail Server is prone to a buffer-overflow vulnerability because it fails to perform adequate boundary checks on user-supplied data. Attackers may exploit this issue to execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM-level privileges. Successful exploits will completely compromise affected computers. Failed exploit attempts will result in a denial-of-service condition. Ipswitch IMail Server versions prior to 11.02 are vulnerable.
