This signature detects attempts to exploit a known vulnerability against the cash words function in PostgreSQL. PostgreSQL versions 7.2 are vulnerable. Attackers can overflow the buffer to cause a denial of service (DoS) or execute arbitrary code on the PostgreSQL server.
A buffer overflow vulnerability has been reported for PostgreSQL. Reportedly, PostgreSQL doesn't properly handle overly long queries when selecting the cash_words() function. Successful exploitation of this issue may enable an attacker to execute arbitrary code as the database server process.
